New Patient Base Coming your Way with TRICARE Starting in January 2019, FEDVIP (Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program) coverage will now be offered to certain retired members of the uniformed services and their families, as well as family members of active duty service members. That means up to seven million potential patient opportunities. This Federal Open Season (November 10 – December 12) marks the first time these patients will have the opportunity to choose VSP®vision coverage as part of their health care offerings. In the past, these patients have had access to referral-based vision exams under their health plan, but without materials coverage. The VSP plan will not require a referral and will include materials coverage. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is working with the Department of Defense on eligibility details, and we’ll share more information as it becomes available. We’ll also share more about what VSP is doing to reach these potential new members. In discussion with your patients that may be eligible, encourage them to choose VSP during Open Season to continue their relationship with you and continue to maximize their eye care and eyewear benefits.
