6 z January 2019 TSO to Sponsor TOA KeyNote Speaker The Doctors of Texas State Optical continue their tradition of support for the Texas Optometric Association annual convention in new and innovative ways. This year at the TOA Convention, which is February 14 - 17, 2019 in Austin, Texas, the annual meeting will start with a special key note speaker, Chef Jeff. Jeff Henderson, otherwise known as Chef Jeff is the creator of Food Network’s reality series, “The Chef Jeff Project,” host of “Family Style with Chef Jeff,” and the star of the TV series, “Flip My Food with Chef Jeff,” he is also the best-selling author of two books. He brings a story of inspiration with his emotional journey of redemption from the streets to the stove, sharing real-life strategies to help you achieve your dreams, no matter your stage of life. The key note event will begin at 4:00 PM on Thursday, February 14 to open the Texas Optometric Association annual meeting. The Doctors of Texas State Optical will continue their hosting of a special Dessert Reception for the Top Ophthalmic Partners (TOPS) later Thursday evening following the annual TOPS Banquet. They also will support the convention as an exhibitor visiting with members and prospective members during the meeting’s exhibit hall hours. TSOWelcomes Drs. Lori Gonzales and Michael Salazar TSO welcomes Dr. Lori Gonzales and Dr. Michael Salazar to the TSO family as the new shareholder owners of Dickinson TSO. Joe Michael Salazar, O.D., is a therapeutic optometrist and glaucoma specialist at Baybrook Modern Eyecare with over 20 years of exceptional eye care service to the Bay Area community. He has grown up in the Bay Area and loves being a part of the community. Dr. Salazar received his Bachelor of Science in Biology with honors from the University of Houston and earned a Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Houston College of Optometry. He is trained in specialty eye care including cataract and laser vision correction surgery co-management, ocular disease management, pediatric and geriatric optometry. During his optometric training, Dr. Salazar received several prestigious awards including the Bausch and Lomb Contact Lens Pathology Award and Most Outstanding Student in the Texas Optometry Opportunities Program. Dr. Salazar is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Texas Optometric Association. Moreover, he is active in community service programs such as the Gift of Sight Mission through the Luxottica Foundation. Dr. Lori Gonzales, O.D., has been in practice for 13 years and her specialties include primary eye care, contact lenses, pediatrics, glaucoma, geriatrics and co- management of LASIK and cataracts Dr. Gonzales attended Rice University, graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology/Ecology. She earned her Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Houston College of Optometry. Her awards and honors include Doctor of Optometry Magna Cum Laude at University of Houston College of Optometry, Bachelor’s Degree Summa Cum Laude at Rice University, Valedictorian at South Houston High School and GP Lens Institute Clinical Excellence Award. Dr. Gonzalez is a member of the American Optometric Association and Texas Optometric Association. Furthermore, she is active in the Gift of Sight local missions and enjoys serving as a mentor to area students through local district career programs.
