On March 23, 2013, my husband Nizar and I volunteered along with several other volunteers from our community to participate in the Blue Trees Project. The Blue Trees Project is a project of Houston Arts Alliance with Galveston Arts Center and Galveston Island Tree Conservancy brought by international artist Konstantin Dimopoulos to color trees blue in Houston. We painted with the large strands of crepe myrtles between Allen Parkway and Memorial Drive at Waugh Drive water-based blue paint.
I was particularly interested in this project as it creates awareness of global deforestation. This artist has been going around the world to raise this awareness. As we are trying to become a paperless office, it is very important to Nizar and I that we must do everything to protect the environment in which we live by giving our time and material contribution to preserve our environment. One such organization which is very dear to us also is Aga Khan Foundation www.partnershipsinaction.org . This Foundation undertakes projects in five key areas health, education, rural development, civil societies and environment.
It was a nice way to give back to our community and also a beautiful site to see. I encourage all who can to drive to see the trees.
